Economic Activity of SMEs in Mercado Libre in Mexico exceeded US$15BN in 2024

A new report from Mercado Libre confirms that, in 2024, its e-commerce and financial ecosystem mobilized the equivalent of 0.81% of national GDP in Mexico

Mexico City, September 10, 2025 – As part of the Mercado Libre Experience taking place in Mexico City, Mercado Libre presents its Best of Mexico report, a study developed in conjunction with Euromonitor International that measures the company's social and economic impact on the activity of SMEs and entrepreneurs in the country. The data confirms Mercado Libre's contribution as an ecosystem to national economic development.

More than 1 million Mexican entrepreneurs and SMEs see Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago as a channel to grow, formalize their businesses, and access financial solutions. In 2024, the ecosystem mobilized US$15bn in economic activity, equivalent to 0.81% of national GDP.

The Mercado Libre ecosystem also established itself as a job creator: in 2024 alone, SMEs operating on the marketplace created more than 33,000 jobs directly linked to their e-commerce activities. Considering Mercado Libre employees, indirect employment linked to the shipping logistics system, and employment generated by SMEs operating in the marketplace, 11.4 jobs were created per hour throughout 2024.

The report shows Mercado Libre's impact on two levels: the ecosystem, which addresses the commerce and fintech business units, and the specific level, which measures the impact of both businesses separately. It also examines the impact of the logistics network in the country, a fundamental part of the company's operations for the democratization of commerce and the growth of economic activity.
